What it means
2021
I went on a march in town, and saw two small girls proudly holding up a placard made from a child’s plastic toy axe, gaffer taped behind a sheet of cardboard.
I never saw what was written on the front.
I took this photo on my phone and never saw them again.
Wielding an axe on the march.
A lesson
I had been struggling with the idea of protest for a while. What was the point anymore and who are the messages really for.
The two girls holding the weapons aloft, a meaning literally gaffer taped behind the message, showed me we were an army going into battle.
I found the same axe’s the girls used, added swords, and so far I have made enough for a small army, just incase they need more in the future.
In lot’s of ways this is an anti-graphic design project because it is not about the message on the front, it’s about the meaning behind it.
This is an open gesture for the two girls on the march to say thank you for the lesson learned. I will continue to make them.
Stockpile.
